{AC}During the summer-autumn period of 2013 the Astraka refuge/mountain hut entered a new era, the era of energy independence through the use of renewable energy sources.

ACBR  Photovoltaic systems where installed and wind turbine installation will follow in 2014.

Following the wind turbine installation the refuge will be powered with electricity from a modern and reliable hybrid system using both the wind turbine and the photovoltaic system already installed.

ACBR  The use of renewable energy sources will reduce the use of the existing diesel generator, the only source of energy of the refuge for years, contributing decisively to protect the environment, save energy, and raise the awareness of the refuge visitors about the use of environmentally friendly energy sources not just in theory but also by being an example the refuge by itself.

ACBR  The project is funded by ESPA and administered by the Greek Tourism Organization.

  The implementation of the hybrid system was accomplished by 'Exelixis' and Pantelis Sventzouris an Electrical Engineer.

{AC}  The implementation includes 33 modules of Polycrystalline photovoltaic solar panels 240watt each axitec for a total power 7.920 watt, an inverter SMA TRIPOWER STP8000TL-20 and three SUNNY ISALSND 8.0H to implement a three-phase network.

ACBR  The produced energy is stored in 48 TUBULAR GEL batteries(2 arrays of 600AH each in C10). On standby there is automation ready to start one three-phase diesel generator 30kVA.ACBR{/AC}
